Project Description | 1. Life Skill Education through sports program in Chennai One All’s three-year life skills curriculum integrates sports and socio-emotional learning to empower children in corporation schools and underserved communities. With a 1:8 facilitator ratio, we aim to build children’s confidence, allowing facilitators to track their behavioral progress. Each session includes two sports activities, starting with a fun ice-breaker and leading into a game of Ultimate Frisbee, paired with discussions on life skills. Personal notebooks are used to connect lessons from the playground to real-world contexts. In communities where facilitator-to-student ratios are low and gender inequality is pervasive, our program addresses key social challenges. Many girls face limited freedom and early marriage expectations, while boys often contend with unemployment and substance abuse. Our life skills curriculum promotes emotional intelligence, empathy, conflict resolution, and resilience. Through mentorship, children learn to recognize the consequences of their actions, stand up for their values, and develop essential communication skills. Our ongoing presence in these communities has led to transformative growth among participants, who are becoming confident, empathetic, and self-reliant young adults. These empowered individuals are prepared to challenge gender stereotypes and, ultimately, to strengthen their communities as agents of positive change. 2. Adivasi Fellowship Program: Fostering Gender Equity and Community Resilience through Inclusive Sports in Gudalur, Nilgiris The Adivasi Fellowship Program is an intersectional, immersive, two-year initiative designed to empower Adivasi youth (ages 18-30) in Gudalur, Nilgiris to become resilient community facilitators. This program integrates diverse practices such as mixed-gender sports, art, dance, music, and theatre, allowing Fellows to explore, express, and connect deeply with their heritage and community. Through regular forums, Fellows engage in meaningful discussions on local issues, gaining insights into the socio-cultural and economic dynamics of their community. The program cultivates these young leaders as champions for gender equity, equipping them to promote inclusive practices and lead positive change within their communities. Currently, the program’s first cohort includes 16 Adivasi youths (6 women and 10 men). In addition to the fellowship experience, participants are supported with post-program employment opportunities, ensuring they can continue their community impact as leaders and advocates. |
impact | 1. Life Skill Education through sports program in Chennai Over the past years, our life skills initiative has witnessed inspiring progress, particularly among young girls who are challenging traditional norms. Many of our female participants, upon reaching puberty, actively advocate with their parents to continue attending our sessions, resulting in an impressive 80% retention rate. This is a remarkable achievement, especially for young women who are part of the first generation to break long-standing practices of gender inequality within their communities. Our program’s impact has not only reached the children but has also gained wider support from parents and the community, who are increasingly recognizing the value of life skills education. This shift in perspective has been particularly transformative for children who had previously left school; through the dedication of our facilitators and the unifying power of ultimate frisbee sport, these children have been motivated to re-enroll and continue their education. The expanding partnership with local schools further underscores this impact, as educational institutions increasingly see the role of life skills in holistic student development. Together, we are fostering resilient young individuals who are not only equipped with critical life skills but are also catalysts for positive change in their communities. 2. Adivasi Fellowship Program in Gudalur In our Gudalur program, we have seen women stand up to their families to continue working in sports-for-development even after they are married, young girls go all the way to Delhi to attend National Team tryouts, young men opening up about their feelings in front of the whole team, young children empathizing with their teammates, speaking confidently in front of unknown groups, taking responsibility for their actions, showcasing a great potential to learn and eagerness to excel. Our Fellows have already started using their voice to stand up for themselves on public transport, at ration shops and all the way until the Collector’s Office to fight for their land being encroached. The boys in the Fellowship program have realized what women go through during menstruation and have started helping their mothers and sisters at home. The long term impact of building such teams of youth will cause a ripple effect of change in underprivileged communities, with empowered, self-confident and resilient youth who challenge gender and societal norms and pursue greater opportunities, rights and freedoms than they had believed possible for themselves. It will take generations to change negative and unhealthy environments, and build in youth the skills, values, and mental resilience to grow, transform mindsets in their families and communities, and escape the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Without mentors, guidance, and support, this is a monumental task. |
One All: Empowering Youth, Bridging Gender Gaps
One All aims to break cycles of gender inequality by building confidence, empathy, and community awareness in young people. Our Life Skills Education program combines sports and learning, creating a safe space for mixed-gender discussions on gender equality, self-identity, social norms, and sexuality. We aim to inspire the next generation of leaders who can shape a more equitable future.
We envision a generation of young people who can challenge gender norms and seize greater opportunities. With your support, we’re helping them build a future filled with possibilities once beyond their reach. Since 2016, we have directly impacted over 4350 children and youth in Tamil Nadu.
