1600 newborns die every day in India. 80% of them can be saved.
3.5 million babies are born prematurely in our country. 40% of them die within the first 24 hours due to lack of neonatal care.
The majority of babies born too soon in underprivileged homes have no access to specialized Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) treatment due to the unavailability of infrastructure and the high costs. The high cost of setting up NICU facilities makes treatment inaccessible to a large chunk of the population due to their economic status. It also impacts the availability of such facilities in remote areas.
That’s where we step in - our efforts are to reduce preventable neonatal deaths and help save newborns.
NFI provides access to curative healthcare for critically ill newborns by addressing the two major roadblocks of lack of access due to location and lack of financial resources. While this helps us save lives now, we also work on preventive healthcare by upskilling the existing health care workers to offer better care and also address the Issue of lack of Infrastructure. The first 24 hours after the birth of a baby are most critical and if right care Is not provided to newborns who are born with any complications during these 24 hours, this reduces the chances of survival of the baby.
Through your valued contribution we will be able to provide critical care to infants who are hanging on by a tiny thread.

Project Description | NFI is committed to savings lives of newborns, especially those born prematurely or with medical complications that require Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) treatment. Neonatal Intensive Care is a specialized function, which is cost intensive and requires clinical expertise and adequate support staff. Due to the medical criticalities, newborns in NICU require extensive care and prolonged hospital stay that makes the treatment high-cost, and most families decide to discontinue due to financial constraints. NFI’s goal was to ensure babies requiring NICU care get financial support for continuity of treatment and eventually, give a little one a chance at life. |
impact | Over the past year, with the support of our dedicated partners and donors, we've had the privilege of providing life-saving care to 8 newborns and their families with the support from Aidbees. |
