OUR APPEAL

Children's Movement for Civic Awareness ( CMCA) is a 22 year old non-profit organization that empowers India’s youth towards being civic-minded, socially conscious citizens who participate in solving problems in their neighbourhood and who uphold democratic values in all spheres of life.

For over 22 years we have taken our citizenship and life skill programmes to Children in schools across India.
This Aidbees TCS World 10K Bengaluru Run, we are raising funds for rural programs in Karnataka – “My Library for Better Me program and Makkala Grama Sabhas (MGS)

PROJECT - MY LIBRARY FOR BETTER ME

CMCA has tied up with the Govt of Karnataka to run the “My Library for a Better Me” programme in Panchayat Libraries, where children are introduced to a host of activities, by trained CMCA mentors. The focus areas are Active Citizenship, awareness on Gender equity, Diversity, Financial & Digital Literacy & so on. Projects to help improve the village are designed as Team activities. Films, Stories, Expert Talks are all included as a way to ignite young minds and to sow ideas for change. The lives of thousands of children will undergo a dramatic transformation, if every Panchayat Library in Karnataka can be similarly transformed.

The panchayat library is now a powerhouse of change and transformation. This year we are working in 55 Libraries. The lives of thousands of children will undergo a dramatic transformation, if every Panchayat Library in Karnataka can be similarly transformed.

Your donation helps you ride this wave of transformation and also gives us financial strength to enrol more children who become beacons of change through this project.

PROJECT - MAKKALA GRAMA SABHAS

CMCA has energized Makkala Grama Sabhas (MGS) in villages since 2011. The MGS recognizes children as equal citizens and gives them the opportunity to meet and question authorities. They discuss problems concerning their schools, communities, and villages, and call for action towards the improvement of their quality of life. They find solutions by engaging with the State and community.

The MGS interventions by CMCA aim to:

1. Create/enhance awareness on MGS among children studying in the selected Gram Panchayats
2. Organize and facilitate MGS in partnership with selected Gram Panchayats
3. Facilitate active participation of a representative group of children from each school/college at MGS
4. Initiate and sustain follow-up advocacy action for resolution of at least three problems voiced by children per Gram Panchayat

Last year CMCA has helped facilitate 141 MGS and students have successfully raised issues on infrastructural needs, drinking water, transport facilities, etc which have tremendously benefited all the village residents.

Description
My Library for a Better Me
Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) is a 22 year old non-profit organization that aims to empower India’s youth towards being civic-minded, socially conscious citizens who participate in solving problems and uphold democratic values in all spheres of life. CMCA has tied up with the Govt of Karnataka to run the “My Library for a Better Me” programme in Panchayat Libraries, where children are introduced to a host of activities, by trained CMCA mentors. Films, Stories, Expert Talks are all included as a way to ignite young minds and to sow ideas for change. The lives of thousands of children will undergo a dramatic transformation, if every Panchayat Library in Karnataka can be similarly transformed. We do this through trained mentors who will be in the Libraries, who will organise activities and other sessions for them. For a child in a small village who has little or no access to anything beyond text books, this programme will bring the world to them. Your contribution will benefit 20 libraries with 2000 children this year.
Makkala Grama Sabha
CMCA has energized Makkala Grama Sabhas (MGS) in villages Since 2011. The Makkala Grama Sabhas recognizes children as equal citizens and gives them the opportunity to meet and question authorities. They discuss problems concerning their schools, communities, and villages, and call for action towards the improvement of their quality of life, finding solutions by engaging with the State and community. The MGS interventions by CMCA aim to: 1. Create/enhance awareness on MGS among children studying in the selected Gram Panchayats 2. Organize and facilitate MGSs in partnership with selected Gram Panchayats 3. Facilitate active participation of a representative group of children from each school/college at MGSs 4. Initiate and sustain follow-up advocacy action for resolution of at least three problems voiced by children per Gram Panchayat. CMCA has long believed that children must understand that they have Rights – to Education, to Safe Drinking Water, to Health, to infrastructure, etc. and Responsibilities towards these issues in the school and beyond. This knowledge is then translated to changes in their lives in small but significant ways. Your Contribution will benefit 5000 children this year
