FUND UTILIZATION

Utilization summary of funds raised last year in TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2023

1. Project - A person-centered approach to Physical Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology services, Nutrition
Amount Utilised (INR)297176
Project DescriptionPhysical rehabilitation and assistive technology (AT): India is home to about 148 million people living below the poverty line. Census 2011 has revealed that over a 26.81million people in India are suffering from one or the other kind of disability. This is equivalent to 2.21% of the population. In the years ahead, disability will be an even greater concern because its prevalence is on the rise. Physical rehabilitation (PR) and assistive technology (AT) help people to improve functioning, live more independent lives, and prevent further injuries and health conditions. Populations who can benefit from PR & AT are growing due to a myriad of factors including ranging from conflict to demographic and epidemiological transitions, and health and allied systems must keep pace. Yet, most people in need do not have access to PR & AT. Nutrition Despite a fast-growing economy and the largest anti-malnutrition program, India has the world’s worst level of child malnutrition. Malnutrition is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children aged under five years. Malnutrition remains the biggest threat to child survival, growth, and development. One out of three children under five years are malnourished. In the child population, 55.8% are moderately malnourished and 1.75% are severely malnourished. Childhood malnutrition is a major health problem. A child with a disability may result from nutrient deficiency, which can result in a broad range of impairments (physical, visual, hearing, intellectual) due to which they face exclusion from social life access to health care services and are at a higher risk of poor health and poverty. At the same time, some disabilities – such as intellectual and developmental disabilities or a cleft palate – can lead to reduced nutrient intake or failure to meet increased nutritional needs. In Karnataka, the percentage of children who are wasted is 9.7% and 11%, respectively, from urban and rural areas. The prevalence of children who are underweight (weight for age) is about 31.5% in urban areas and 37.7% in rural areas. Nutrition promotes strengthening dietary diversity and healthy eating habits and food preparation to prevent malnutrition. Awareness raising focuses on strengthening training opportunities, especially for girls and women, to support sustainable development. Essential Medication: Children with disabilities needs often require specialized medical care and support especially children who are suffering from epilepsy and multiple disabilities.
impactProvision of Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology 1. Adults and children received the appropriate priority assistive products and their mobility was improved. They are able to continue their education and work. 2. Assistive devices enable people with disabilities to achieve maximum independence. 3. The fine motor and gross motor skills, neck control, sitting and standing positions of children with disabilities have improved. 4. Increased communication skills, self-confidence, and social inclusion through the involvement of family members, siblings, and friends. 5. Reduction of stress among family members and parents 6. Enhancing activities of daily living 7. There has been a reduction in secondary deformities among children with disabilities Nutrition and essential medication for children with severely disabled. • Children with disabilities accessing nutritious food • Health & nutritional status of children with disabilities has been improving • Children gained weight • Children's immunity has improved, and they are better able to fight diseases and disorders. • Reduction in secondary deformity, vitamin deficiency, and child illness. • The health condition of children with disabilities has improved because of receiving essential medicines • Epilepsy has been reduced and is under control • Reducing secondary complications • The immune system of children has improved. • The use of medication reduced abnormal activities and hyperactivity in children
