Act For Children

Act for Children’ is an initiative by ActionAid Association to ensure children in marginalized and vulnerable communities have access to their basic rights especially education, healthcare and protection. The initiative is aimed at creating an enabling environment for children so that they can enjoy a childhood that every child deserves. ActionAid India addresses issues related to the protection, nutrition and education of children while also supporting rescue and rehabilitation of children who are victims of an abuse and crime. We work to empower communities to remain vigilant against the risk of child sexual abuse, child trafficking, child marriage and child labour while also facilitating shelter and counselling to them. Last year alone (2023-24), we prevented 2,204 child marriages, 300+ child labour cases, and 178 child trafficking incidents across seven states (Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Telangana)

Stop violence against women

Gender-based violence is a manifestation of patriarchy and historically unequal power relations between men and women. Over the past three years, India has witnessed a concerning rise in crimes against women, as reported by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In 2020, there were 371,503 reported cases, which increased to 428,278 in 2021, marking a 15.3% rise. The upward trend continued into 2022, with 445,256 cases reported, averaging approximately 51 cases per hour. These statistics highlight a persistent and alarming issue of violence against women in India, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive measures to enhance women's safety and security. ActionAid Association has been working on the issue of violence against women across its operational areas by ensuring safe spaces for women in communities and by providing them immediate relief and rehabilitation support through our own centres as well as through the government run centers.

STEM Education

ActionAid Association believes that every child, regardless of socio-economic background, deserves the opportunity to explore, innovate, and pursue their dreams. An effort in this regard has been supporting STEM education across 160 government schools in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal and Gujarat benefitting 40,800 students through 400 trained science teachers. Through hands-on learning and mentorship, we equip students with critical STEM skills, ensuring they receive quality education that fosters curiosity based learning. Without access to these opportunities, many children risk being left behind.
