At Habitat for Humanity, we’re committed to doing everything we can to end India’s housing deficit. Our vision is to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live yet an estimated 1.6 billion people globally already live without adequate shelter. In India, more than 78 million people live in poor housing conditions.
Housing deficit persists and grows as a result of systemic inequity, which is made worse by stressors and shocks. Habitat India seeks to serve those who experience exclusion and vulnerability.
Habitat seeks to improve the adequacy, affordability, and sustainability of housing through interventions in the program areas of Habitability, Basic Services, Tenure Security and Affordability.
To maximize intended impact, Habitat uses an integrated and holistic approach, working across all spheres of the housing ecosystem: community, sector and societal. Habitat puts people at the center of its work and addresses systems that perpetuate inequity.
We work on 3 key programmatic areas: Housing, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) and Disaster Risk Reduction and Response.
