OUR APPEAL

We are looking for funding support to provide essential nutritional supplements to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children between 7 months to 24 months under our “First 1000 Days” initiative.

Rise Against Hunger India is working in some of the most underdeveloped and remote rural regions of the country where comprehensive food security and sustainable livelihoods projects are being undertaken. Most of these communities are inhabited by the indigenous tribal communities officially designated as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). In all these locations, the health and nutrition indicators of children and women is quite low compared to national average due to multiple factors. While long term livelihood and food security projects will take time to show impact, Rise Against Hunger India is running community kitchens in many locations to provide hot cooked nutritious meals to nearly 1,000 participants spread across 9 Districts in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bihar. The activities can be broken down into the following broad categories:
1. Provision of packaged nutritious meals (khichdi mix of rice, dal, dehydrated vegetables, and a sachet with a blend of 20 minerals/vitamins)
2. Identifying eligible women and children, discussing the modalities (place of cooking, schedule, timings etc.)
3. Supply of cooking materials, cleaning items, vessels and condiments (women cook the meals themselves and they contribute fuel, locally grown vegetables etc.)
4. Rotational cooking and meal consumption by all participants at a common place
5. Monthly recording of weight, height and BMI. This is normally done with the help of ASHA, ANM or Anganwadi. In some locations, Anganwadis are not there, so Rise Against Hunger India staff does the monthly measurements.
6. Identification of critical cases and referring them to the Health Centre (providing transport etc.)
The overall aim of this intervention is to help improve the nutritional status of pregnant women, lactating mothers and young children. The micronutrients and minerals added to the meals are very helpful in improving immunity.
Per participant cost is around 600 Rs per month (this includes cost of meals, purchase of ingredients and condiments, purchase and/or replacement of measurement units)
For 1,000 participants, total monthly cost is 1,000 x 600 = 600,000
For 12 months, the total cost will be 600,000 x 12 = 7,200,000
Total Seventy-two lakh Indian Rupees
