604200 Raised Goal 5000000

OUR APPEAL

HCG Foundation will like to raise funds for financially challenged Oral, Breast & Cervical Cancer Patients.

Cancer, also called malignancy, is an abnormal growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including oral cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Symptoms vary depending on the type. Cancer treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery. Among various diseases, cancer has become a big threat to human beings globally. As per Indian population census data, the rate of mortality due to cancer in India was high and alarming with about 806000 existing cases by the end of the last century. Cancer is the second most common disease in India responsible for maximum mortality with about 0.3 million deaths per year.

The projected 5 most common cancers in 2020 for males (lung, mouth, prostate, tongue, and stomach) constitute 36% of all cancers and for females (breast, cervix uteri, ovary, corpus uteri, and lung) constitute 53% of all cancers.

Oral Cancer - Cancer occurring in the tissues of oral cavity (begins at the lips and extends backward to the front part of the tonsils) or oropharynx (part of the throat) is termed as oral cancer (source - http://cancerindia.org.in/oral-cancer)
Statistics of Oral Cancer
• India has one third of oral cancer cases in the world
• Oral cancer accounts for around 30% of all cancers in India
• Oral cancers in India estimated (Globocan, 2018)
• New cases: 1,19,992
• Deaths: 72,616
• In general, more men suffer and die from oral cancer than women.
Breast Cancer - In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685000 deaths globally. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years, making it the world’s most prevalent cancer. Breast cancer occurs in every country of the world in women at any age after puberty but with increasing rates in later life. (Source - https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/breast-cancer )

In India, cancer of the cervix uteri is the 3rd most common cancer with an Incidence rate of 18.3% (123,907 cases) and the second leading cause of death with a mortality rate of 9.1% as per GLOBOCAN 2020.

India is a country where, every year countless lives are lost, due to many reasons; but the most challenging one is not getting medical services/treatment on time and also due to financial hardships. Because of financial hardships, poor people don’t even visit hospitals for their check-ups. More than 50% of the cases in India arrive in stage 3 or 4 and that decreases their chance of survival. Reports say India has the highest number of mortality to incidence ratio in the whole world. In the case of cancer, the extensive treatment and recovery periods can deplete a family’s savings quickly. Often, this results in patients either abandoning treatment or avoiding it altogether

Cancer treatment is a very expensive treatment & is out of reach for most poor patients. Cancer is both a psychological and economic burden. The necessity of this project is to alleviate the economic burden and thus in turn the psychological burden of bearing the cost of the disease by providing quality treatment.
