Where would we be now without those who believed in us as children? Without their support and encouragement, would we have made it this far?
Schooling of migrant children in India is compromised for various reasons such as their mobility, disadvantaged backgrounds and exclusionary experience in schooling. Their experiences are not included in the frameworks for schooling in education.
The poverty of circumstances is made worse by the poverty of opportunity. Because of this, these future champions remain unidentified and unrewarded.
I believe that no matter the circumstances, children can and will work hard given the opportunity and the support.
Gubbachi Learning Community is a Bangalore based NGO that has been working with children of migrant labour workers who have dropped out of school. These children are often prevented from attending school due to multiple reasons - from physical access, existing learning deficits and cultural barriers. Gubbachi builds Community Learning Centres aimed to help children get back formal education, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty through education, and live with economic, social and personal dignity. Since 2015, Gubbachi has impacted 3,900+ children in nine Government Higher Primary Schools and engaged with 18,300+ families in around 30 migrant communities across Bangalore.
Please contribute to this campaign to help build the next Community Learning Centre in Bhoganahalli. This Centre in Bhoganahalli will impact an estimate of 140 marginalised children (3-14 year olds) who are currently out of school.
Your contribution, however big or small, will help with resources such as infrastructure, teachers and teaching-learning materials for the Community Learning Centre in Bhoganahalli.
In 2020, when schools closed in-person classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I started volunteering to teach mathematics to children from economically disadvantaged families. Since then, I have been teaching children and young adults through various networks. On the weekends, I have also been teaching the children of domestic workers and security staff in my locality.
This year, I am bringing my love for running with my passion for children's education together and raising funds for Gubbachi Learning Community which will help the children of migrant labour workers in Bangalore get back to formal education. I am participating in this year's TCS World 10K Bengaluru virtually.
A big thank you to all those who have donated on this page.
